Transition Check-in / Check-out

WHAT IS TRANSITLOG (PERMISSION TO SAIL) FOR YACHTS?

Transit log is the registration document that all domestic and foreign flagged vessels sailing in Turkish waters must have for navigation and presence.

HOW TRANSIT LOG WORKS FOR TURKISH FLAGGED COMMERCIAL VESSELS?

All Turkish flagged commercial boats must obtain transitlog. In addition, they must obtain a new transitlog document for voyages out of the harbour or abroad. If the boat belongs to a charter company, the document must be renewed at each contract change. There cannot be any passenger on the boat whose name is not on the transitlog document. This is also useful for the validity of the 3rd party liability insurance of the boat.

HOW TRANSIT LOG WORKS FOR TURKISH FLAGGED PRIVATE BOATS?

If the boat has a Private Boat Certificate, you need to get a ‘transitlog’ for your boat only if it leaves the country. Apart from this, you do not need a transitlog document for navigation in Turkish territorial waters and international waters.

TRANSIT LOG OPERATION ON FOREIGN FLAGGED VESSELS?

The transit log document allows foreign flagged yachts to navigate in Turkish territorial waters and enter Turkish ports. All cases of entry into or departure from Turkey, navigation between Turkish ports and wintering in Turkish ports are made with the transit log document and all information in this document constitutes the primary basis for subsequent transactions.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF TRANSIT LOG FOR FOREIGN FLAGGED VESSELS?

The duration of the transit log is 1 year. However, on the transit log document, the ports of call or the cruising area of the foreign flagged vessel must be written. If it is necessary to go out of the ports written in the document, a new transit log document will have to be issued or corrected. Therefore, it is appropriate to process the possible ports such as Istanbul – Antalya, Antalya – Istanbul in advance. How many years can foreign flagged boats stay in Turkey? Foreign flagged boats can stay in Turkey for 5 years. All they need to do to stay in Turkey is to renew their transit logs every year. The 5-year stay in Turkey can be extended with the permission of the ministry. The Customs Directorate has the authority to initiate legal proceedings against yachts that do not apply for ministerial permission and have completed the 5-year period. Boats left in yacht harbours or dry docks in Turkey are subject to the transit log document in the same way.
